Very toxic, colourless, combustible gas with a pungent smell. It reacts rapidly with water to formboric acid and various fluoroboricacids that liberate Boron Trifluoride
Boron Trifluoride is used as a catalyst in polymerisations, condensations, cracking processes, halogenations and many other processes, and raw material for the tetrafluoroborates that are used in electroplating.
Boron trifluoride with the boron isotope 10B is used as an absorption medium in neutron detectors.
