What is Hydrogen Bromide manufactured from?

Hydrogen Bromide must be dry when filled into steel cylinders. Usually manufactured from hydrogen and bromine, which react together in the gaseous state at moderate temperature in the presence of noble metal catalysts.

It can also be liberated from potassium bromide by roughly 25% sulphuric acid and is formed as a byproduct in the bromination of organic substances such as tetralin and when preparing bromobenzene and bromoacetone.

What are its applications?

Hydrogen bromide is used to prepare inorganic and organic bromides, as a reducing agent and catalyst in a number of organic processes and to cleave off protective groups, it is also regularly used as a solution in glacial acetic acid.
