Connections:
DIN 477 No 8 (1" RH Ext Flat seal with gasket)

Properties:
Colourless, very toxic, pungent-smelling gas or liquid.
Anhydrous Hydrogen Chloride causes very severe chemical burns but causes virtually no damage to glass or metal surfaces.
Miscible with water in all proportions.

Its high boiling point compared to other hydrogen halides is attributable to the formation of supramolecular assembles that are held together by hydrogen bonds.

Hydrogen fluoride is also miscible with water in all proportions, with the aqueous solution known as hydrofluoric acid. This acid powerfully attacks glass quartz and metals except lead, silver, gold and platinum.

Polyethylene or polypropylene containers are normally used to store it, or lead and iron vessels for highly concentrated hydrofluoric acid.

How is Hydrogen Fluoride manufactured?

Industrial hydrogen fluoride is sourced from calcium fluoride and sulphuric acid with calcium sulphate formed as a byproduct.

What are its applications?

Considered one of the most important fluorine compounds, hydrogen fluoride is also used industrially to manufacture chlorofluorocarbons, fluorocarbons and fluorinated surfactants plus as a catalyst in isomerisations, condensations and polymerisations.

In laboratories, hydrogen fluoride is used as a solvent and for fluorination. Hydrofluoric acid is the starting point for the manufacture of inorganic fluorides including sodium fluoride and uranium hexafluoride. The acid is also used as an etchant in the glass and metal industries and for fettling metal castings.
